Characteristics of a Great Franchise
Over the many years of experience and with a database of over 3,000 franchise brands and hundreds of distributorships/dealerships we have analyzed, we have drilled all this down to three main key characteristics of a successful franchise or distributorship company. In order to succeed as a one of these the following qualities must be present for each potential business that desires to use franchising as their key marketing strategy:
Original – The main idea of the business must be different in some way than the normal every day type of business. The business can be in the same business as other businesses of its type but must have a unique selling advantage. What are the main things that set it apart from the rest of the group?
Duplicatable – Is the main system of the business fairly easy to duplicate? Can other reasonably experienced business people understand the concept and follow your system that you have created? Have you had people come to you and ask if your business is a franchise or if you have considered franchising it? If this question has been asked of you then this is a great indication that there is interest in it and that others consider it duplicatable.
Profitable – Does it make money? If doesn’t make a good profit, then it may not be the right time to franchise it. More time may need to pass to structure it properly so that it makes a good profit. Clearly, the main reason why people invest in franchises is to make money, so if there are no true earnings and earnings potential, it is not a viable business for franchising.
